A Grey Cup venue shrunk down to a fraction of its old size

Varsity Stadium opened in the early 20th century on the University of Toronto's downtown campus, growing over subsequent decades into a large multi-purpose venue that hosted University of Toronto football alongside professional and championship events, including multiple Grey Cup finals in the years before larger dedicated stadiums existed elsewhere in the city. For much of the mid-20th century it was one of Toronto's primary large outdoor sporting venues.
A much smaller replacement
As the university's needs shifted and the aging stadium's upper sections fell into disuse, the university demolished most of the original structure in 2002, rebuilding a far smaller stadium that opened in 2007 with a fraction of the original seating capacity, sized more appropriately for university-level athletics than the professional and championship events the old Varsity Stadium had once hosted. The rebuilt stadium remains in use for University of Toronto varsity athletics and community sports today.
