The Royal Agricultural Winter Fair, known widely simply as "The Royal," launched in 1922 at Exhibition Place, held in November after the CNE's summer run had ended, giving the same grounds a second major annual event focused specifically on agriculture and livestock rather than general public entertainment. The fair brought farmers, breeders and rural Ontario directly into the middle of Canada's largest city for a concentrated week of competition and exhibition.

The Royal grew into one of the largest combined indoor agricultural and equestrian fairs in the world, featuring livestock competitions, show jumping, a major horse show, and displays connecting urban visitors with Canadian farming that most had no other regular contact with. Held annually for over a century with only rare interruptions, the fair remains a distinctive counterpoint to Toronto's otherwise heavily urban identity, still bringing cattle, horses and prize-winning produce into the city's exhibition halls every autumn.
