Pinewood Toronto Studios

Pinewood Toronto Studios opened in 2008 on industrial land in Toronto's Port Lands area, licensing the Pinewood name from the storied British studio complex behind decades of major film productions. The Toronto facility was purpose-built with large, technically modern soundstages designed to compete for major international film and television productions, at a time when Toronto was already an established filming location for its ability to double for American cities, but lacked the large-scale studio infrastructure bigger productions needed.

Anchoring an industry

The studio complex expanded in phases over the following years, adding additional soundstages to meet growing demand, and became one of the anchors of Toronto's film and television production sector alongside other studio facilities across the city. Its presence helped Toronto compete more directly with production hubs like Vancouver and Atlanta for large-scale international productions, reinforcing the city's position as one of North America's largest film and television production centres outside Los Angeles and New York.
