The Eglinton Crosstown LRT

Construction on the Eglinton Crosstown began in 2011, at an initial estimated cost of about $9.1 billion for a design-build-finance-maintain contract with the Crosslinx Transit Solutions consortium. The line was originally slated to open in 2020, but the date slipped repeatedly through the 2020s; documents obtained by CBC Toronto in 2022 showed project costs had risen to at least $12.8 billion.

A 2026 opening

The line achieved "substantial completion" on December 5, 2025, following a Revenue Service Demonstration period, at which point full operational control transferred to the TTC. Line 5 Eglinton opened to TTC customers on February 8, 2026. The initial phase runs approximately 19 km from Kennedy Station to Mount Dennis, with 25 stops mixing underground stations and surface-level stops along Eglinton Avenue.
