1Password

1Password was founded in 2005 by brothers Dave and Roustem Teimourian, operating initially under the company name AgileBits, built to solve the increasingly common problem of managing dozens of different online account passwords securely rather than reusing the same weak password across every site. The tool encrypted and stored users' passwords locally, letting them use strong, unique passwords everywhere without needing to memorize each one individually.

A category-defining password manager

1Password grew steadily from a niche utility into one of the most widely used password managers in the world, expanding into business and enterprise security products as password management shifted from a personal convenience tool into essential digital security infrastructure for individuals and companies alike. The company remained headquartered in Toronto through that growth, raising significant venture capital in the 2010s and 2020s while building a reputation as one of the more trusted names in consumer and business password security.
